THIS FRIDAY: Ambassador Wendy Sherman, top U.S. diplomat and expert, talks Iran, North Korea with JDCA
This past month has been a momentous — and at times harrowing — period for U.S. diplomacy, especially when it comes to nuclear issues. In May, the Trump administration withdrew the United States from the Iranian nuclear deal. This week, President Trump is in Singapore, attempting to reach a denuclearization agreement with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un.
At this historic moment, JDCA invites you join an OFF-THE-RECORD briefing call THIS Friday, June 15 at 11 AM Eastern with Ambassador Wendy Sherman. Ambassador Sherman has negotiated with both Iran and North Korea, serving as the U.S.’s lead negotiator with Iran under the Obama administration. Ambassador Sherman, now a senior counselor at the Albright Stonebridge Group and a fellow at Harvard’s Kennedy School, served as Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs during President Obama’s tenure.
In this role, she oversaw the bureaus of Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Eurasia, the Near East, South and Central Asia, the Western Hemisphere and International Organizations. She led the U.S. negotiating team and was a central player in reaching a successful conclusion of the Iran nuclear agreement. Ambassador Sherman also served in the State Department under the Clinton administration, where as a high-ranking official she helped broker a freeze to the North Korean nuclear program.
