Take action to defend democracy
Democrats and JDCA are stepping up to organize and protect our right to vote and defend democracy. This week, Democrats in Congress reintroduced the Freedom to Vote Act, the most significant voting rights and anti-corruption bill in generations.
Among the many provisions included in the Freedom to Vote Act, the bill would:
– Expand automatic and same-day voter registration;
– Combat voter suppression and voter intimidation;
– Strengthen vote by mail, early voting, and ballot access;
– Stop the influence of dark money in politics; and
– Establish a set of criteria for redistricting to end gerrymandering.
These measures would protect our democracy from Republican-led voter suppression and election subversion efforts and safeguard the right to vote for all Americans.
During our Week of Action in May, JDCA volunteers asked Democratic members of Congress to support the Early Voting Act – a crucial bill that would standardize early voting – which is now part of the Freedom to Vote Act. This type of direct impact on legislation is a key part of our work at JDCA and on the issue that we know is the number one priority for Jewish American voters. We asked Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (GA) — a leading advocate in Congress for voting rights — about the Freedom to Vote Act. His answer exclusively available to JDCA – below:
