New Jewish Dems Ad Demonstrates Parallels Between Rise of Nazism and MAGA Extremism

JDCA PAC ad illustrates danger of GOP extremism targeting Jews & democracy with images of Charlottesville, January 6, Trump rallies, and neo-Nazis expressing support for Kanye West

WASHINGTON – A new 30-second ad, released today by the Jewish Democratic Council of America’s affiliated PAC, JDCA PAC, demonstrates the startling parallels between the rise of Nazism in the 1930s and the dangers of MAGA extremism. The ad – which highlights the hatred, bigotry, antisemitism, and fascist leanings that have infected the Republican Party – warns that “history may repeat itself, unless we act. Hate and tyranny don’t stop themselves, they must be stopped. Vote – everything depends on it.”

“This ad demonstrates that nothing less than the future of our democracy and security are on the ballot in this election,” said Halie Soifer, JDCA CEO. “White supremacy and extremism have been normalized within the Republican Party, and pose a grave threat to Jewish Americans and other minorities. MAGA Republicans have attacked our democracy and rights, which is why we’re mobilizing Jewish voters nationwide in support of Democratic candidates who champion our values, defend democracy, and reject hateful extremism.”

The ad follows the op-ed JDCA CEO Halie Soifer published in Newsweek yesterday, where she asserted that “Republican candidates up and down the ballot are overwhelmingly aligned with Trump’s brand of MAGA extremism, while Democrats are committed to defending democracy, election integrity, and reproductive rights. The partisan divide on these issues has a single common denominator – Republicans are willing to do anything to obtain power, even attacking our democracy and freedom.”

This digital ad will target more than 750,000 Jewish Democrats and Jewish independent voters in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin with a message to reject the dangerous extremism of the Republican Party and elect Democrats. JDCA PAC will spend nearly a quarter-million dollars distributing the ad to Jewish voters wherever they are online.

“Violent extremism, hate, and authoritarianism have been wholly normalized by the right, jeopardizing our communities and our democracy. But we are not powerless – and we can stop history from repeating itself if we understand the urgency of this moment and take action,” said Amy Spitalnick, who led the effort to hold the Charlottesville neo-Nazis accountable as executive director of Integrity First for America.*

In 2020, JDCA PAC released a similar ad titled “hate doesn’t stop itself, it must be stopped” regarding the dangers of Donald Trump, just hours before he failed to condemn white supremacy and incited the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by,” setting the stage for the January 6 violent attack on the Capitol. Recently, the ad was featured in a Washington Post column by Jennifer Rubin, which quotes now-U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism Deborah Lipstadt’s defense of the 2020 ad.

JDCA has endorsed 124 candidates in the 2022 cycle who share the values and priorities of Jewish voters, from defending democracy to ensuring access to abortion. Exclusively targeting Jewish voters in key districts and states, JDCA and JDCA PAC have made more than 760,000 direct voter contacts, while JDCA PAC is on pace to spend more this campaign cycle than ever before.
