Jewish Dems Support Renewed Diplomatic Effort to Prevent a Nuclear Iran

April 5, 2021

WASHINGTON— As the Biden administration engages with European allies in a renewed diplomatic effort to prevent a nuclear Iran, Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) today launched a new advocacy campaign to demonstrate support from the American Jewish community for President Biden’s approach.

JDCA’s new Iran Resource Center will serve as a valuable resource for the public, the press, and members of Congress. The organization is also encouraging its members to take direct action and write to their members of Congress, urging them to support the Biden administration’s “compliance for compliance” approach to Iran.

JDCA CEO Halie Soifer said:

“Jewish Dems support the Biden administration’s diplomatic efforts to resume Iranian compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) because it’s the path most likely to ensure that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons. Our goal is to fight the misinformation campaign against smart diplomacy and demonstrate the support among Jewish Dems in support of one of our key foreign policy priorities: preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

“Jewish Dems believe that all parties must work toward mutual and verifiable compliance with the original Iran Deal, and we are encouraged by recent progress.

“Once Iran resumes its full compliance with the JCPOA, we also support follow-on negotiations to ‘lengthen and strengthen’ the agreement, as well as negotiations to address Iran’s other malign activities, including its ballistic missile program and support of terrorism. We believe this approach to be in the national security interests of the United States and our allies, including Israel.

“These are complex issues, which can be distorted by misinformation, which is why JDCA is providing information and resources to the American people on Iran: We want this debate to be based on the truth about the JCPOA and the possibilities presented by resuming the agreement.”
