Jewish Dems Support President Biden’s “Compliance for Compliance” Approach to Iran and JCPOA

“With the return of American leadership and diplomacy to the world stage, we welcome President Biden’s approach to Iran, urging a return of Iranian compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). We also support President Biden’s effort to explore diplomatic options to ‘lengthen and strengthen’ the JCPOA in order to counter Iran’s nuclear ambitions and other nefarious activities, including missile testing and proliferation, support for terrorism, and other destabilizing activities in the region.

“The Biden administration’s diplomacy-forward, ‘compliance for compliance’ approach to the JCPOA is the path most likely to ensure that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons. This means all parties must return to the negotiating table to discuss proposals, with the aim of mutual and verifiable compliance. 

“JDCA also strongly supports the Biden administration’s diplomatic efforts to work in close consultation with our allies, including the P5+1 and Israel, and we urge Congress to support the Biden administration in its efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. 

“Donald Trump’s precipitous withdrawal from the JCPOA and ‘maximum pressure’ strategy toward Iran led to minimal results other than moving Iran closer to acquiring a nuclear weapon. JDCA supports diplomatic efforts to return Iran to compliance with the JCPOA, followed by further negotiations to address all outstanding issues, which we believe to be in the national security interests of the United States and our allies, including Israel.”
