Jewish Dems Respond to Trump Immigration Proposal

WASHINGTON – In response to the White House proposal further restricting immigration, Executive Director of the Jewish Democratic Council of America, Halie Soifer, issued the following statement:

“President Trump’s new immigration proposal is a violation of Jewish and American values. As descendants of immigrants who have faced the devastating consequences of closed borders, American Jews overwhelmingly oppose restrictive immigration policies.

“This proposal aims to further limit the number of immigrants entering the United States, and continues the president’s draconian separation of migrant families at our borders. Further, it provides additional funding for President Trump’s border wall, which is an egregious waste of taxpayer dollars. Finally, it neglects to provide a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients, or Dreamers, who have been targeted and endangered by the Trump administration. President Trump’s treatment of Dreamers can be summarized in one word – unconscionable.

“This policy is shameful and inhumane, and we will oppose it in the strongest possible terms.”
