Jewish Dems Respond to Statement of Special Counsel Robert Mueller
WASHINGTON – In response to the statement of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Executive Director of the Jewish Democratic Council of America, Halie Soifer, issued the following statement.
“Today’s statement by Robert Mueller was a clear and pointed passing of the baton from the special counsel’s office to Congress. As Mueller affirmed, if he had confidence the president did not commit a crime, he would have said so. Make no mistake – Robert Mueller intentionally left open the possibility that President Trump may have violated the law. This is a question that only Congress can answer for the American people.
“It is now incumbent on Congress to investigate whether the president committed crimes, including the obstruction of justice. It is also incumbent on the White House to immediately stop obstructing congressional oversight, and allow Congress to do its job. The American people demand and deserve checks and balances, and Republicans in Congress must accept this as a their constitutional duty – congressional oversight of the executive branch is not optional, and no one is above the law, including the president.
“The future of our democracy is at stake, and we will continue to support ongoing efforts in Congress to fully investigate the critically important findings of the Mueller Report.”
