Jewish Dems Respond to Assault on Women’s Rights in Alabama

WASHINGTON – In response to the Alabama State Senate voting to outlaw nearly all abortions, Halie Soifer, executive director of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), issued the following statement:

“Yesterday, 25 Republican men voted to effectively ban abortion in the state of Alabama, the third time in recent weeks that a Republican-led state legislature has staged an outright attack on the reproductive rights of women. This is an egregious assault on women’s reproductive freedom, and Jewish Democrats are speaking out in opposition to these archaic state laws and in support of a woman’s right to choose.

“During women’s health week especially, it is critical to consider public opinion about women’s health issues. The majority of Americans believe abortion should be legal, and do not want to turn back the clock on safe and legal reproductive healthcare.

“Jewish Democrats will not sit back and allow Roe v. Wade to be threatened by states or the courts, and are committed to doing whatever it takes to stop these regressive laws, including mobilizing voters in 2020 to ensure we elect candidates who support a woman’s right to choose.”
