JDCA Lauds DC District Court’s DACA Decision

The Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) celebrates yesterday’s decision, by Judge John D. Bates of the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia, to protect DACA and Dreamers from President Trump’s unlawful, biased attacks.

American Jews know the importance of open, inclusive immigration law—the very thing to which so many of us owe our presence in this country. Judge Bates’ decision is a victory not just for Dreamers, but for all Americans who believe in pluralism, tolerance, and progress. It is a victory not just for DACA, but for an idea of this country: For America as a place open to all, where anyone can find opportunity, and be welcomed not as an immigrant, but as a fellow American.

President Trump’s xenophobic, lawless policies have sought to close America to the world, and alienate us from our noblest national ambitions. Yesterday’s decision communicates one thing clearly: He will not succeed.
