JDCA Applauds Passage of House Resolution Recognizing Armenian Genocide
WASHINGTON — Following the overwhelming passage of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide, Halie Soifer, Executive Director of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), issued the following statement:
“We applaud the House of Representatives for passing H. Res. 296, which officially recognizes the Armenian Genocide. It is critically important for America to join the dozens of countries who have recognized the Armenian genocide, and acknowledge the more than one million lost over a century ago at the hands of the Ottoman Empire.
“As Jews, we understand the pain of losing an entire generation, and stand in solidarity with Armenian Americans impacted by this dark chapter of history. It is never too late to acknowledge the enormity of this loss and wrongdoing, and to reaffirm the promise of ‘never again’ bearing witness to genocide.
“We now urge the Senate, as well as President Trump, to join the House in affirming the United States’ recognition of the Armenian Genocide.”
