New York 2022 Endorsements & Voting Information

Important Deadlines for New York
Voter Registration: Oct. 14
– Absentee ballots: Application: In-person: Nov. 7, By mail: Oct. 24, Completion: postmarked or delivered by Nov. 8 (Election Day) (absentee ballots by mail must be received by Nov. 15).
– Early Voting: Starts: Oct. 29, Ends: Nov. 6

Rules and requirements
To register, voters must provide a state driver’s license number or the last 4 digits of their Social Security number. If a voter is registering for the first time by mail and doesn’t have either of these, they can provide a copy of another acceptable form of ID. This can be a photo ID but does not have to be.
– Only new voters who registered by mail are required to show ID at the polls when they vote for the first time.
– Ballot drop boxes are available.
– Polling places are open from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Sen. Chuck Schumer (NY-Sen)
Senator Chuck Schumer has served as the Senator from New York since 1999 and as Senate Majority Leader since 2021 when Democrats took back the Senate. Since becoming the majority leader, Schumer has championed many of our key issues, trying to secure meaningful legislation on voting rights, immigration, healthcare, climate change, and the economy. He is front and center in negotiations over the Build Back Better Act and is trying to procure a generational investment in the American people. Senator Schumer is the first Jewish majority leader and is a longtime friend of the Jewish and pro-Israel communities.
Gov. Kathy Hochul (NY-Gov)
Governor Kathy Hochul became the first female Governor of New York in 2021 when she took office after Andrew Cuomo’s resignation. Prior, she served as a U.S. Representative for New York’s 28th district and as Lieutenant Governor. Since taking office, Gov. Hochul has spearheaded a bold policy agenda on various issues like abortion, public safety, climate change, and economic recovery from the pandemic. She has taken action to ensure New York remains a haven for abortion care, strengthen gun laws, and provide tax cuts for the middle class. Hochul is facing Rep. Lee Zeldin, an extremist and ardent Trump supporter, in the general election. Gov. Hochul is a strong ally of the Jewish community and a powerful voice against antisemitism in New York and across the country.  She consistently condemns antisemitic incidents that occur in the state and frequently engages with the Jewish community. She recently signed the Holocaust Education Bill into law, which strengthens the states’ mandate to educate students about the Holocaust. We are proud to endorse her.
Matt Castelli (NY-21)
Matt Castelli served as a CIA agent for 15 years where he led intelligence collection and counterterrorism operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. He went on to serve as Director for Counterterrorism in the Obama administration and cited the Jan. 6 insurrection and other threats to our democracy as his primary motivation to run for Congress. His other issue priorities include improving the accessibility and affordability of healthcare, protecting reproductive freedom, and investing in manufacturing jobs. The significance of Castelli’s race comes from the extremism of his Republican opponent, Elise Stefanik. Stefanik is a leader of the extremist wing of the Republican party and a promoter of antisemitic conspiracy theories like the Great Replacement Theory. We are proud to endorse him.
Bridget Fleming (NY-01)
Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming has previously worked as a prosecutor and as Southampton Town Councilwoman. Fleming has focused her campaign on building a fairer economy, protecting the environment, and protecting reproductive rights. She highlights her work on tax relief, environmental protection, and the COVID-19 pandemic. She has been named “one of the most active and effective lawmakers in the county” by Newsday, a Long Island and NYC newspaper. Fleming supports a public option for healthcare and tax cuts for most Americans. This pickup opportunity is a top priority for Democrats, and we are very excited to endorse her.
Laura Gillen (NY-04)
Laura Gillen served as the Supervisor of the Town of Hempstead from 2017 to 2019 and was the first Democrat elected to this position in over a century. During her tenure, Gillen managed a $500 million dollar budget and led initiatives to modernize Hempstead’s infrastructure, create the town’s first sustainability panel, and pass the town’s first multi-year capital spending plan. Prior to serving as Supervisor, Gillen worked as a lawyer and an adjunct professor of law at Hofstra University and supported various community service roles and projects. Her priorities include protecting abortion rights, enacting gun safety measures like an assault weapons ban, combating climate change, and expanding voting rights. We are proud to endorse her.
Rep. Dan Goldman (NY-10)
Representative Dan Goldman has served the NY-10 Congressional District since 2022. Prior, he worked as an attorney and served as lead counsel in the first impeachment of former President Donald Trump and for the House Impeachment Managers during the Senate trial of Donald Trump. He worked for 10 years as an Assistant US Attorney in New York, where he prosecuted gun trafficking, corporate fraud cases, Russian organized crime, and violent gangs. In Congress, he has worked to combat gun violence, uphold democracy and freedom, and address border security. Goldman sits on the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism. He has joined JDCA for phonebanks and other events to energize our volunteers.
Jackie Gordon (NY-02)
Jackie Gordon is a veteran, public servant, educator, community activist, and Jamaican immigrant. Gordon served in the U.S. Army Reserve for over twenty years and most recently served as a member of the Babylon Town Council for over a decade. Her top two priorities are healthcare and education. Her healthcare reform proposals focus on lowering prescription drug prices and protecting Obamacare’s protections, while her education policy focuses on technical schools. We are excited to endorse her.
Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-17)
Representative Sean Patrick Maloney was first elected to Congress in 2012 and currently serves as Chair of the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee). Before his election, he served in President Clinton’s administration in various roles, including as White House Staff Secretary. At the time, he often referred to himself as “the highest-ranking openly homosexual man on the White House staff." He has cosponsored numerous pieces of pro-Israel legislation, including the Israel Relations Normalization Act of 2021, which promotes normalization agreements between Israel and Arab states, as well as legislation condemning BDS.
Rep. Jerry Nadler (NY-12)
Representative Jerry Nadler has served in the House of Representatives since 1992. Prior, he served in the New York State Assembly. Rep. Nadler is among the highest-ranking Jews in Congress and leads the unofficial Jewish House Caucus. As such, Rep. Nadler plays a key role in mediating between Jewish members of Congress. In addition, he is the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and has played a crucial role in the impeachment proceedings of Donald Trump, tamping down on white supremacism and antisemitism, protecting abortion rights, and implementing criminal justice reform. Rep. Nadler has cosponsored numerous pieces of pro-Israel and anti-BDS legislation. He has been a friend of JDCA since our founding, and we are proud to endorse him.
Josh Riley (NY-19)
Josh Riley is an attorney with experience working as a Hill aide under Rep. Maurice Hinchey, Sen. Ted Kennedy, and Sen. Al Franken. He was also a policy analyst in the Department of Labor. In these roles, he has worked to raise the minimum wage, secure worker protections, and strengthen social safety nets. As an attorney, he has fought to ensure access to healthcare for low-income families, restore the Voting Rights Act and overturn Citizens United, support Dreamers, and ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. Riley’s priorities include strengthening the middle class, protecting Medicare and Social Security, and defending democracy. JDCA endorsed Riley in 2022 and endorse him again in 2024 as he works to flip NY-19 from red to blue.
Max Rose (NY-11)
Former Congressman Max Rose was first elected to Congress in 2018. Prior, he worked as Chief of Staff for Brightpoint Health, a non-profit healthcare organization that has responded to the needs of underserved New Yorkers. Rose is also a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Afghanistan. JDCA endorsed Rose in 2018 and 2020. We are excited to endorse him.
Rep. Pat Ryan (NY-18)
Congressman Pat Ryan is a decorated combat veteran, small business owner, and County Executive. Ryan recently won a special election to complete the rest of Antonio Delgado’s term. He attended West Point and served two tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. Following his military service, Ryan founded a technology company that employed 150 people and focused on providing job training for veterans. In 2019, he was elected to be Ulster County Executive where he provided financial relief to small businesses and residents, built supportive and affordable housing, and invested in mental health services. In Congress, Ryan is focusing on leveling the playing field. He wants the wealthy to pay their fair share, provide relief to the middle class, raise wages, and protect organized labor. This district will be crucial to holding our House majority. We are excited to endorse him.
Robert Zimmerman (NY-03)
Robert Zimmerman is a small business owner and long-time progressive activist. He is a proud supporter of LGBTQI+ rights, expanded healthcare coverage, gun violence prevention, comprehensive immigration reform, voting rights, and action to combat the climate crisis. He speaks eloquently of his experiences as a long-time closeted gay man and as such emphasizes the need to protect the LGBTQI+ community. Zimmerman will face George Santos, a participant in the Jan. 6 insurrection and extremist on various policy issues in the general election. Zimmerman is Jewish and served as President of his Synagogue and led the American Jewish Congress Long Island Division. We are proud to endorse him.
