North Carolina 2022 Endorsements & Voting Information

Important Deadlines for North Carolina
– Voter Registration: Nov. 5 in person, Oct. 14 by mail
– Absentee ballots: Application: Nov. 1, Completion: postmarked by Nov. 8 (Election Day), received by Nov. 17
– Early Voting: Starts: Oct. 20, Ends: Nov. 5

Rules and requirements
To register by mail, voters must complete a voter registration form and mail it to the board of elections in their county. The board of elections will then send the voter a voter registration card.
– Voters may register and vote at the same time during the early voting period at any one-stop early voting site in their county. Same day registrants must show proof of eligibility and residence.
– Voters are not required to show photo ID at the polls.
– Curbside voting is available for eligible voters.
– Ballot drop boxes are not available.
– Polling places are open from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm.

Justice Cheri Beasley (NC-Sen)
Justice Cheri Beasley served as a North Carolina Supreme Court Justice from 2012 to 2020. She gained national attention in 2020, as an outspoken advocate for racial justice reform following George Floyd’s murder. Justice Beasly was appointed to the state Supreme Court in 2012 and was subsequently elected statewide to the Supreme Court in 2014. She outperformed other statewide Democratic candidates for Senate and Governor in 2014, and, though she narrowly lost her reelection in 2020, she again outpaced all Democrats in the state.  She strongly supports Israel’s security and the two-state solution, noting that she supports unconditional U.S. aid to Israel and opposes the BDS movement. She supports reentry to the JCPOA, as well as future negotiations regarding Iran’s other nefarious behavior.
Rep. Don Davis (NC-01)
Representative Don Davis was elected to the House in 2022 in a highly competitive election. Prior to serving in Congress, Davis served in the Air Force for 8 years and taught as an assistant professor of Aerospace Studies at Eastern Carolina University. He worked as an educator for over 20 years. He became the youngest Mayor of Snow Hill, NC, at age 29 and worked to rebuild the economy and invest in high-speed internet and road infrastructure. In 2008, he was elected State Senator and continued his work fighting for rural communities, raising teacher pay, and expanding access to quality health care. State Sen. Davis has consistently fought for the people of North Carolina and we are proud to endorse him.
Rep. Valerie Foushee (NC-04)
Representative Valerie Foushee has been serving her community since her election to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 2012, subsequent appointment to the State Senate in 2013, and in Congress since 2022. Prior to entering the State Legislature, State Sen. Foushee worked in law enforcement and held positions on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board as well as the Orange County Board of Commissioners. As a State Senator, she has worked to increase access to healthcare and end the practice of child marriage. She has also stood up to Republicans when they sought to pass bills targeting immigrants, restricting abortion access, and limiting voting rights. In Congress, she has focused on reforming the criminal justice system, addressing climate change, and combating systemic racism. Rep. Foushee is a proven fighter for Democratic values and we are proud to endorse her.
Jeff Jackson (NC-14)
State Senator Jeff Jackson has been serving his community as a North Carolina State Senator since 2014. Prior to entering politics, State Sen. Jackson served in the U.S. Army, where he remains active to this day. In the North Carolina State Senate, Jackson has fought to deliver Covid-19 relief to his constituents, expand Medicaid, provide affordable housing, and retaliate against voter suppression. Most notably, State Sen. Jackson played a crucial role in closing North Carolina’s “consent loophole,” ensuring that women reserved the right to revoke consent after it was given. State Sen. Jackson has been a consistent advocate for Democratic values in the state senate and we are proud to endorse him.
Rep. Kathy Manning (NC-06)
A strong friend of JDCA, Representative Kathy Manning was first elected to Congress in 2020. She has committed her career to bringing people together, both as a business leader and a member of her community. Prior, she worked as a lawyer, small business owner, and a leader in the Jewish community, leading major Jewish philanthropic organizations like JFNA and Prizmah. She’s proven through her work in Congress and on countless boards and organizations that she is committed to serving the people of her district. She believes that every American is entitled to affordable health care coverage. She wants to protect individuals with pre-existing conditions including senior citizens. Rep. Manning believes in a woman’s right to choose and vows to fight for equal pay, affordable and quality childcare, and access to reproductive health care.Rep. Manning wants to protect the environment by creating incentives for companies to utilize clean and renewable energy supplies while fighting for cleaner water and improved air quality. She supports universal background checks for gun purchases, closing gun show loopholes, and banning access for domestic abusers, terrorists, criminals, and individuals with mental illness. In addition to chairing the Jewish Federations of North America, Rep. Manning is the founding chairwoman of Prizmah, which is the umbrella body for Jewish day schools of all denominations. She supports a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and is a firm believer in strong US-Israel relations. 
Wiley Nickel (NC-13)
State Senator Wiley Nickel is a dedicated public servant and has represented his community in the North Carolina State Senate since 2019. Prior to entering elected office, State Sen. Nickel worked as a staffer in the Obama White House and ran a criminal defense law practice in Cary, NC. During his tenure in the State Senate, State Sen. Nickel has been a sworn defender of democracy with positions on the Judiciary Committee and the Redistricting Committee. State Sen. Nickel is focused on creating much-needed electoral reform and protecting the right to vote. State Sen. Nickel has demonstrated his commitment to Democratic values in both the Obama administration and North Carolina State Senate, and we are proud to endorse him.
