Jewish Americans Stand With Labor

September 1, 2023

Dear Friends,

As we enter Labor Day weekend, we celebrate the contributions of American workers and labor unions, the backbone of the American economy. As Jewish Democrats, we commemorate the contributions Jewish Americans have made in the American labor movement and we honor this history by continuing to support workers’ rights.

Jewish Americans have always stood with labor and played key roles in the creation of unions and labor organizations. Today, Jewish Democrats in Congress continue to support American workers, and JDCA continues to support labor by advocating for pro-worker policies such as the Protect the Right to Organize (PRO) Act.

JDCA stands with President Joe Biden because — among other reasons — President Biden is the most pro-union President in modern American history. Through the Inflation Reduction Act and American Rescue Plan, the President has overseen the creation of over 12 million new jobs and brought unemployment to a 54-year low. He has brought manufacturing jobs back to the United States through the CHIPS Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and continues to make everyday expenses more affordable by lowering drug costs. President Biden pushed for the first funding increase for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in a decade, and under his supervision the NLRB is working harder than ever to enforce labor laws, protect workers, and make it easier to join a union.

As we enter the 2024 election cycle, JDCA will continue to endorse pro-worker candidates like Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), an ardent advocate for American workers and the “Dignity of Work.” Sen. Brown shared his thoughts on the importance of worker’s rights last week when we endorsed him. Check out our elections hub to see our other endorsed candidates for the 2024 cycle.

As you celebrate Labor Day, we hope you take a moment to remember the men and women who fought to give us Labor Day, weekends, a 40-hour work week, and so much more.

JDCA was honored to join other Jewish leaders and organizations, including Jewish Democratic Women for Action (JDWA), the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA) at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations earlier this week. At this meeting, we heard from Ambassadors Linda Thomas-Greenfield and Dr. Deborah Lipstadt about the measures the Biden Administration is taking to stand with and defend the Jewish community and our interests in the United States and around the world. Click here for more on President Biden’s record delivering for Jewish Americans.
