GOP Stands for Nothing But Trump

August 24, 2020

This week’s Republican National Convention (RNC) will be the antithesis of last week’s Democratic National Convention (DNC). While we celebrated the diversity, unity, and range of issues highlighted at the DNC, the Republicans don’t even have a policy platform. Instead, the GOP is (blindly) supporting whatever Donald Trump chooses to do in a second term.

Last week, we celebrated Democrats’ robust policy platform and Joe Biden’s integrity and empathy. We affirmed he’s the mensch we need in the White House. This week, it’s clear that Republican Party has become nothing but a rubber stamp for Donald Trump and his corruption, recklessness, and lies. Join our movement to elect Democrats we can be proud of, and visit the new JDCA website to learn how to get involved.

Yesterday, we learned that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo plans to address the Republican Convention from Israel in an unprecedented, unethical, and illegal breach of protocol. We were quick to respond to this development, and were quoted in the New York Times. Donald Trump continues to politicize the U.S.-Israel relationship, and Jewish voters reject it in the strongest possible terms. No one wants to see Israel being used as a backdrop for Donald Trump’s reality TV show that will be the RNC, including Israelis themselves.

Last week, Donald Trump asserted that he moved the embassy to Jerusalem “for the Evangelicals.” It now appears that Trump facilitated the agreement between the UAE and Israel to serve as political prop for Pompeo. It’s not good for Israel but Trump thinks it’s good for his re-election, and that’s all he cares about.

We understand if you don’t want to watch the GOP convention. We’ll watch so you don’t have to! Follow us on Twitter @usjewishdems for updates and analysis. If you want a recap of the DNC, read our weekly wrap-up from last week, and listen to Halie’s conversation with the American Jewish Committee (AJC)’s People of the Pod podcast. Finally, join us every Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:30 to 8:30pm ET to call Jewish voters in key swing states. With your help, we will inspire our neighbors and friends to make a difference on Election Day, so check out our calendar of events and join us today.
