Important Deadlines for Florida
– Voter Registration: Oct. 10
– Absentee ballots: Application: Oct. 29, Completion: 7 p.m on Nov. 8 (Election Day)
– Early Voting: Starts: latest Oct. 29 (varies by county), Ends: Nov. 5
Rules and requirements:
– To register to vote, you must provide a current and valid driver’s license number, an ID number, or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number.
– To vote at the polls, you must provide photo ID that also shows a signature OR photo ID and another form of ID with your signature.
– Polling places are open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
– Ballot drop boxes are available.
– As a result of suppressive voting laws passed by Republicans, various changes have been made to Florida’s voting and election procedures that voters should be aware of. These include:
– The use of ballot drop boxes was restricted. Now, ballot drop boxes can only be used during the early voting period.
– Drop boxes may now only be located at permanent county voting offices or an early voting location. They must be staffed by a county employee as well.
– Only 2 mail ballots can be brought to an elections office at one time.
– Food and water cannot be distributed to voters in line by anyone other than a poll worker.
– In terms of new ID requirements, absentee voters must provide a driver’s license number, state ID number, or the last 4 digits of their Social Security number to get a mail ballot.
