California
Sen. Alex Padilla (CA-Sen)
Senator Alex Padilla was appointed to his Senate seat by California Governor Gavin Newsom after it was vacated by Vice President Kamala Harris. In his short time as a Senator, Padilla has established himself as a champion on many of JDCA’s key issues, particularly voting rights and immigration. We are proud to endorse Senator Padilla and help elect him to a full six-year term in the Senate.
Jay Chen (CA-45)
Jay Chen is the President of the Board of Trustees for Mt. San Antonio Community College, a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves, a small business owner, and a committed advocate for Democratic values. In the House, Chen would focus on decreasing the cost of healthcare, expanding educational opportunities, and supporting small businesses. Chen will fight for the people of California and ensure that Congress is working for them, and we are proud to endorse him.
Rep. Adam Gray (CA-13)

JDCA endorsed Assemblymember Gray in his 2022 race and we endorse him again in 2024.
Rep. Katie Porter (CA-47)
Representative Katie Porter is running in California’s 47th District this November due to redistricting after serving two terms in California’s 45th District. From the start, Rep. Porter has been a fighter for everyday Americans. That’s why in 2012, then-California Attorney General Kamala Harris appointed Rep. Porter to be California’s watchdog against the banks. Rep. Porter and her team held the banks’ feet to the fire, securing over $18 billion and helping tens of thousands of families move forward with their lives. Rep. Porter has been a key player in the fight against abusive credit card fees and, in 2010, helped pass important federal credit card protections for families. Rep. Porter has taken that same fight to Congress as a member of the Oversight and Reform Committee, where she has been fearless in asking tough questions during hearings to get the truth out of administration officials and making government work for everyone. That’s also why she is an ardent supporter of federal voting rights legislation and removing dark money from politics. Rep. Porter has worked hard on making healthcare coverage more affordable for American families. In 2019, she passed legislation that reduced the income threshold for families to deduct medical expenses from their taxes and has introduced multiple bills aimed at lowering prescription healthcare costs. She is also a friend to Israel. She co-sponsored H.R. 326, which reaffirmed Congressional support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Rep. Porter is undoubtedly a star in the party and we look forward to sending her back to Congress.
Rep. Josh Harder (CA-09)
Josh Harder was first elected to Congress in 2018. He was inspired to run to protect health care coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, like his adopted brother. Prior to serving in Congress, he worked at Bessemer Venture Partners and as a course instructor. His priorities include lowering prices, fighting for affordable health care, and combating homelessness. He takes a particular interest in supply chains, and he led a bipartisan effort to improve trucking regulations to make it a more desirable profession. JDCA endorsed Harder in 2020 and 2022.

Levin has been a strong leader on critical issues to our community. Before joining Congress, he spent years tackling the issue of climate change, working in the clean energy industry to improve both transportation and electric generation. He also spent several years on the board at the Center for Sustainable Energy. Rep. Levin has continued that fight in Congress, serving on the House Committee on Natural Resources and the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis. He supports providing quality healthcare to all Americans, supporting bills that would provide dental and vision coverage under Medicare and improve healthcare outcomes for mothers and babies on Medicaid and in the CHIP program. Rep. Levin is a strong advocate for the U.S.-Israel relationship and a co-sponsor of H.R. 326, which reaffirmed Congressional support for a two-state solution.
Kermit Jones (CA-03)
Dr. Kermit Jones is a physician and former service member. After his service, Jones served as a White House Fellow in the Obama administration, working with the Secretary of Health & Human Services on veterans’ healthcare, which remains his top issue. His other top priorities include making healthcare more affordable, investing in infrastructure, and lowering the cost of housing to reduce homelessness. This new district runs from Pluma County to Death Valley along the Nevada border, encompassing the mountainous Sierra communities and including the entire Tahoe basin. We are excited to endorse him.
Asif Mahmood (CA-40)
Dr. Asif Mahmood is a physician and philanthropist running for Congress in California’s 40th district. As a physician, Dr. Mahmood has enacted a policy in his office that uninsured patients are not charged for their care, enabling these patients to seek medical treatment where they otherwise could not. In his philanthropic work, Dr. Mahmood has worked with organizations like UNICEF and sits on the board of Southern California’s largest homeless shelter. In Congress, he will fight to tackle inflation, bring down the cost of living, and invest in our infrastructure. Dr. Mahmood has made an indelible mark on his community in Southern California and he will build on this important work in Congress. We are proud to endorse him.
Will Rollins (CA-41)
Will Rollins, a former federal prosecutor, has experience working in the Department of Justice’s Terrorism and Export Crimes Section where he prosecuted various cases, including charging an electrical engineer for conspiring to send microchips with missile guidance applications to China and pursuing Iranian nationals for violating U.S. sanctions on Tehran. Additionally, Rollins played a role in prosecuting individuals responsible for the insurrection in the U.S. Capitol on January 6. In his current campaign, Rollins aims to protect reproductive freedom, propose comprehensive immigration reform, promote gun safety laws, and as a member of the LGBTQ community, is committed to supporting the passage of the Equality Act. In 2022, Rollins overperformed in the district and came closer to unseating the 30-year incumbent than any Democratic candidate has in the past decade. JDCA endorsed Rollins in 2022 and we endorse him again in 2024.
Rep. Rudy Salas (CA-22)
Rep. Rudy Salas was elected to Congress in 2024 after serving five terms in the California State Assembly. In 2012, Salas flipped the seat which represents Bakersfield. Salas’ story is emblematic of the American Dream -growing up as a field worker with his father, Salas prioritized public safety, clean drinking water, small business success, healthcare, workforce development, and expanding educational opportunities in the state assembly. During his final term, Salas successfully secured $50 million of investments for projects to expand local nursing programs, and secured millions of dollars for local schools and colleges. JDCA endorsed Salas in 2022, and we endorsed him again in 2024.

Prior to her election to the State Assembly, she worked in the Department of Education and served on the Newhall School Board. In Congress, she will focus on implementing paid family leave, protecting social security, and fighting for equity through policies like the Equality Act and the Women’s Health Protection Act. She is a dedicated advocate for Democratic values and we are proud to endorse her.
