Arizona
Sen. Mark Kelly (AZ-Sen)
Senator Mark Kelly is a retired NASA astronaut and veteran proudly representing the state of Arizona. Senator Kelly’s victory was key for Democrats retaking the Senate in 2020. Kelly’s views firmly align with those of JDCA. He has championed gun reform alongside with his wife, former Arizona congresswoman and gun-violence victim Gabby Giffords. JDCA endorsed and supported Kelly in 2020 and has a strong relationship with his Senate office since entering office. We are proud to endorse Senator Kelly and help elect him to a full six-year term in the Senate.
Katie Hobbs (AZ-Gov)
Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs is a defender of democracy who stood up to Trump and the Republicans’ attempt to steal the 2020 election in Arizona. Prior to serving as Secretary of State, she was in the Arizona State House of Representatives and Senate, where she became the Senate Minority Leader. Her focus in the state legislature was on expanding Medicaid, providing healthcare for thousands of Arizonans, and increasing education and voting rights. Hobbs is a supporter of protecting reproductive freedom, promoting racial equity, defending voting rights, expanding economic opportunities for families and individuals, and making healthcare more accessible and affordable. Her background as a social worker helping women and families in crisis has prepared her to understand the public health needs of the Arizonan community. We could not be more excited to endorse her.
Kirsten Engel (AZ-06)
State Rep. Kirsten Engel is a former Arizona State Legislator and environmental attorney, and she has worked at the MA Office of Attorney General and EPA. In the Arizona legislature, State Rep. Engel fought to fully fund public schools and universities, build technical education programs and workforce development programs, and implement environmental protections. Additionally, Engel advocated for criminal justice reforms such as drug treatment and improved prison oversight, while standing up to Republican legislatures who attacked abortion rights and voting rights. Her policy priorities include a smart water policy, lowering the cost of prescription drugs and healthcare, and abortion rights.
Jevin Hodge (AZ-01)
Jevin Hodge is a business and community leader who has devoted his life to helping Arizonans. Hodge describes himself as a “problem solver,” who has focused on helping businesses, nonprofits, and governments handle issues like COVID-19 and expanding access to education. Hodge leads organizations like the Booker T. Washington Child Development Center, the longest-running Head Start in Arizona. Through his service in the community, Hodge has seen firsthand the issues facing Arizona families and refuses to stand by while Republicans continue to make life harder. His top priorities include protecting voting rights, addressing inequality, funding public schools, and ensuring universal healthcare. We are excited to endorse him.
Rep. Tom O'Halleran (AZ-02)
Representative Tom O’Halleran has been a fierce representative for the people of Arizona’s 1st district since his election in 2016. Due to redistricting, Rep. O’Halleran will be running in Arizona's 2nd district this year. He has spoken out against the vile immigration policies of the Trump administration and their effect on the people of Arizona, pushing support for the DREAM Act and ending family separation. Rep. O’Halleran has worked to protect against Medicare and Medicaid cuts and supports the expansion of the Affordable Care Act. Rep. O’Halleran has consistently fought for the LGBTQ+ community and supports reproductive rights. He has advocated for increased investment in a green economy and supports aggressive action on fighting climate change. He supports a two-state solution. Tom is a positive voice in the party and we are excited to see what he will bring in years to come.
Rep. Greg Stanton (AZ-04)
Rep. Greg Stanton was first elected to Congress in 2018. Prior to his congressional election, Stanton served for six years as the Mayor of Phoenix, where he focused on cutting carbon emissions and promoting LGBTQ+ equality. He also served on the Phoenix City Council. In Congress, Rep. Stanton has led efforts to protect the climate, focusing largely on water and climate resiliency. He is also a vocal supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and prominently champions the Equality Act. He supports promoting peace and security through the Abraham Accords, noted the benefits of the U.S.-Israel relationship for Arizona, and has voted to pass legislation affirming Israel’s right to protect itself at every turn. JDCA endorsed Rep. Stanton in 2018, 2020, and 2022.
