WATCH: JDCA Responds to Antisemitic Attack
Amid an already difficult week, the Jewish community is reeling from another violent antisemitic attack. We are devastated by the intentional targeting and burning of a historic synagogue in Jackson, Mississippi, on Shabbat. We’re relieved that no innocent bystanders were killed or injured in this attack, but we’re deeply concerned about this arson, which appears to be a hate crime driven by antisemitism.
Beth Israel – the only synagogue in Jackson, Mississippi – was the same synagogue targeted in another attack by the KKK in 1967 because of its support for civil rights. The rise in antisemitism in the United States, and acts of violence like this driven by antisemitism, is unconscionable and must come to an end.
JDCA’s CEO Halie Soifer joined i24 News soon after the news broke to provide her perspective on this attack and the rise of antisemitism in the United States.

As Halie shared, “the issue is not the right or the left, it’s the issue of right or wrong. Antisemitism, wherever it may emerge, is wrong, and our elected officials on both sides of the aisle must take meaningful action to combat it.”
