Trump: Bad for Jews, Bad for Israel

May 17, 2024

Donald Trump is a self-proclaimed aspiring ‘dictator on day one’ with a long history of antisemitic rhetoric. As the New York Times reported this week, his antisemitism has been echoed by Republicans, including GOP leaders. Trump has attacked our democracy, threatened our rights, and emboldened right-wing extremists, which is antithetical to our values and dangerous for American Jews.

There are 171 days until Election Day, and we are aiming to ensure every Jewish American knows the danger posed by  Donald Trump in a potential second term.

Your Call To Action: Use these key messages to become a JDCA surrogate in your community and to push back against Republican lies and misinformation.

Donald Trump is not hiding his unhinged plans for his presidency, including weaponizing the U.S. government. He recently told TIME that he would deploy the military against civilians to carry out mass deportations, allow states to track women’s pregnancies so they can prosecute them for receiving abortion care, and threatened to use the Justice Department to go after his political opponents. He praises fascists and dictators like Vladimir Putin and Viktor Orban, and he’s acting more like them.

Have you heard the false narrative that Trump is good for Israel? Trump mocked Israel and praised terrorists after October 7, called on Israel to “finish up” the war in Gaza without recognizing the more than 100 hostages, and has said he supports transforming U.S. foreign aid, including to Israel, into loans. His former national security advisor, John Bolton, recently said in the New York Times, “Trump’s support for Israel in the first term is not guaranteed in the second term because Trump’s positions are made on the basis of what’s good for Donald Trump, not on some coherent theory of national security.”

Three years after moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel, Trump defiantly declared he took such action “for the Evangelicals.” At the time, he bemoaned his lack of support among Jewish Americans, struggling to understand why Evangelical Christians would be “more excited by that [embassy move] than Jewish people.” Since then, he said that Jewish Americans who vote for Democrats demonstrate a “total lack of knowledge or disloyalty,” invoking an antisemitic dual loyalty accusation. He repeated this earlier this year when he accused the vast majority of Jewish voters of hating Israel and hating their religion because they vote for Democrats, concluding they should be “ashamed of themselves.” We’re not ashamed — we’re voting our values.

We’ve seen the disastrous impact of a Trump presidency before, and it’s up to all of us to do everything we can to ensure we defeat him in November and reelect Joe Biden and Democrats. Use our key messages to help explain to your friends and family why Donald Trump is bad for Jewish Americans and Israel and why President Biden is aligned with Jewish voters on Israel and every other issue.
