Three years since January 6th
Dear Friends,
Tomorrow marks three years since Donald Trump incited a deadly attack and insurrection on the U.S. Capitol to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Since then, Trump — the clear frontrunner for the 2024 Republican nomination — has only become more dangerous. In recent weeks, he declared he would be a dictator on “day one” and claimed that “immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country,” echoing Hitler’s rhetoric. A victory for Donald Trump in 2024 would be a victory for right-wing extremists, including those who attacked the Capitol on January 6, and a direct threat to our democracy.
The preservation of our democracy and freedoms has been a central tenet of President Biden and Vice President Harris’s administration. Ahead of his address today marking three years since January 6, President Biden’s new ad asks Americans an important question: “What will we do to maintain our democracy?”
The answer is to VOTE in 2024 for those who are willing to defend it.
Three years since the darkest moment for our democracy in modern American history, our work at the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) is more important than ever before. Support JDCA today and join our efforts as the political home and voice of Jewish voters in support of Democrats who share our core values.
JDCA advocates for policy, educates and mobilizes Jewish voters, and elects Democrats, all consistent with our core values. Next week we will host a community conversation regarding the silence of the international community in the aftermath of Hamas’s horrific use of sexual violence as a weapon of war on October 7. The panel, entitled “Denying the Rapes of Israelis Harms All Women,” features award-winning journalist, author, and Senior Editor at Slate Dahlia Lithwick; District Attorney for Westchester County, NY, and former federal prosecutor, Southern District of New York (SDNY) Mimi Rocah; and author, MSNBC contributor, and opinion columnist at the Washington Post Jennifer Rubin. Thank you for your support and partnership of JDCA, and wishing you a happy, healthy, and BLUE new year.
Shabbat Shalom,
