This Passover is Different From All Other Passovers

April 19, 2024

Why is this Passover different from all other Passovers?

It is the first since the worst massacre of Jewish people since the Holocaust. More than 1,200 families are missing loved ones horrifically killed on October 7. More than 100 families remain in a perpetual state of uncertainty, not knowing the fate of their loved ones held captive by Hamas in Gaza. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced from northern and southern Israel, which just experienced an unprecedented direct attack from Iran consisting of approximately 300 intercepted drones and missiles. Approximately two million Palestinian civilians in Gaza face a looming famine.

JDCA’s annual Passover companion looks at the parallels between current events, political dynamics, and the Passover story, and provides steps we can take to ensure those elected to office represent our values and protect our freedoms. You may also want to add a fifth question this year – why is this election different from all other elections? The stakes are higher and the distinction between presidential candidates has never been more stark, with our democracy, rights, and freedoms on the ballot.
