The Power of Our Vote: Jewish American Heritage Month
Yesterday marked the beginning of Jewish American Heritage Month, which honors the tremendous contributions Jewish Americans have made to our country. As President Biden said in his statement commemorating this special month, “the story of America was written, in part, by Jewish Americans.”
One of the reasons Jewish Americans have helped write the history of America is because we stand up for our values, including defending democracy, protecting the right to vote, ensuring equality and freedom, and pursuing justice for all. While Jewish Americans only constitute 2% of the population, our impact in elections is much greater due to our geographic location and relatively high rate of voter turnout. We have no doubt that the Jewish vote can and will continue to make the difference in support of Democrats in close elections.
The power of our vote, and JDCA’s work mobilizing Jewish voters, was proven in the 2020 election. In the four swing states that determined the outcome of the Electoral College vote – Arizona, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Georgia – the Jewish electorate was larger than President Biden’s narrow margin of victory.
In the past three years, JDCA played a critical role in flipping the House, Senate and White House from red to blue, and we’re doing it again as we approach the 2022 midterms. For more about our election work – including our ongoing work in Ohio, which goes to the polls tomorrow – check out the JDCA Elections Hub.
JDCA is the only national organization mobilizing and sending ads specifically to Jewish voters in support of Democrats who share our values. Together with JDCA PAC, we’re deploying highly targeted and impactful ad campaigns where the large Jewish population can deliver victory for Democrats who share our values.
In honor of Jewish American Heritage Month, we call on you to join Jewish Dems in bringing your voice and values (virtually) to Capitol Hill as a part of our Week of Action on May 11 and May 12. Sign up for Week of Action meetings and events below, including our May 10 kickoff event with Senator Cory Booker, Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow, and Executive Director of Integrity First for America (IFA) Amy Spitalnick.
Sincerely,
Halie Soifer
