The path to the House majority in 2024

January 12, 2024

Dear Friends,

In 2024, the path to Democrats winning back control of the House runs through California and New York, where the Jewish vote will be crucial in impacting the outcome of close elections. As the political home and voice of Jewish voters, the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) is uniquely positioned to mobilize Jewish voters in New York and California for Democrats who share our core values. JDCA has two opportunities to get involved in the NY-3 special election and the CA-30 Democratic primary in the next week. Keep reading for more.

GET OUT THE JEWISH VOTE IN NY-3 FOR TOM SUOZZI

New York’s 3rd Congressional District is a swing district, which was most recently held by ousted “Jewi-ish” Republican fraud George Santos. Flipping this seat from red to blue is critical to Democrats retaking the House, and there’s an opportunity to do just that four weeks from now by electing former Rep. Tom Suozzi on February 13.

By our estimate, NY-3 has the fourth-highest Jewish voter population of any congressional district in the country, about 11% of the voting population. The Jewish vote will be critical to electing Suozzi, who will protect abortion rights, defend democracy, and stand with Jewish Americans on every key issue, including Israel.

Starting next week, JDCA will host phone banks every week on Tuesdays to call Jewish voters in NY-3 and make sure they are prepared to vote for Tom Suozzi on February 13. Help Democrats further diminish the dwindling Republican House majority  — soon to be a mere two seats! — by joining our first phone bank on January 17, and help us flipthis critically important House seat from red to blue.

SIGN UP: CA-30 CANDIDATE ISSUES FORUM

In every election, JDCA candidate forums provide a unique opportunity for Democratic primary candiates to address issues most important to Jewish voters. JDCA will host our first issues forum of 2024 for the open CA-30 House seat on Wednesday, January 17 at 9:00 a.m. PT / 12:00 p.m. ET. This is an opportunity to hear from the Democratic candidates running to replace Rep. Schiff about issues of importance to Jewish voters, including defending democracy, protecting abortion access, combating antisemitism, and supporting Israel. We hope you will join us to hear directly from the six candidates: Mike Feuer, Assemblymember Laura Friedman, LAUSD Board Member Nick Melvoin, State Senator Anthony PortantinoBen Savage, and Mayor Sepi Shyne.

DENYING THE RAPES OF ISRAELIS HURTS ALL WOMEN

Finally, JDCA hosted a critically important event earlier this week, “Denying the Rapes of Israelis Hurts All Women,” with experts Dahlia Lithwick, Mimi Rocah, and Jennifer Rubin, focused on the horrific sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas on October 7th. This was our tenth community conversation focused on the crisis in Israel. In case you missed it, wanted to watch it again, and/or share with others, a full recording of the event is here, and all ten recent JDCA events can be found here.

As the political home and voice of Jewish voters, advocating for policy, and supporting Democrats who share our core values, we deeply appreciate your partnership and support, and hope you’ll join JDCA as a member in 2024. Your support will help us expand our advocacy, programming, and other efforts in this critically important election year. Thank you.
