The Hill: UN chief calls for Israel and Iran to cease hostilities: report

May 11, 2018

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres called on Friday for suspension of “all hostile acts” in the Middle East, after Israel and Iran launched assaults against one another over Iran’s presence in Syria, The Associated Press reported.

Guterres comments came a day after Israel responded to what its military said was an Iranian rocket attack on forces in the Golan Heights, launching a series of airstrikes on Iranian military targets in Syria.

The U.S. backed Israel’s retaliatory strikes on Thursday, saying that the country had a right to defend itself in the face of Iranian aggression.
