The GOP’s Once-in-a-Century Failure
It’s only Wednesday, but it’s already been a full week of lying and losing from the GOP.
Yesterday, we wrote that by choosing to embrace pathological liar George Santos as one of their own, the GOP has demonstrated there’s no limit to the extremism they’re willing to accept within the ranks of the Republican Conference. Santos’ long record of deception and lies is an insult to all Jewish Americans, including the nearly ten percent of New York’s 3rd Congressional District who are legitimately Jewish.
Today, House Republicans have stepped up their dangerous dysfunction. Over the past two days, Kevin McCarthy has failed in SIX votes for Speaker of the House, preventing the House from being sworn in, let alone doing its work for the American people. This is HISTORIC – no Speaker nominee has even failed one vote in 100 years – and it is an embarrassing failure for the Republican Party, which demonstrates the GOP’s dysfunction and disarray, with no clear path forward.
This week’s GOP debacle demonstrates the resounding failure of the Republican Party, which has been hijacked by extremists, and the urgent need for Democrats to win back control of the House in 2024.
