The GOP turned its back on Jews & Israel

January 10, 2022

Republicans in Congress are hindering the fight against global antisemitism and endangering Israel’s security by blocking two critical votes in the Senate. Republicans are refusing to consider the nomination of Dr. Deborah Lipstadt to serve as Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, and they are blocking votes on emergency supplemental funding for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system.

How can Republicans claim to stand with our community when they are actively endangering the safety and security of Jews and Israel? It’s emboldens antisemitism, weakens Israel’s security and right to self defense, and we’ve had enough.

Click below to tell your senators to support Dr. Lipstadt’s nomination, tell Mitch McConnell to stand up to Senator Rand Paul on funding Iron Dome, and read more about the danger of Republican obstruction.

SUPPORT DR. LIPSTADT'S NOMINATION  TELL THE GOP TO STOP STALLING ON IRON DOME

The Republican block on Dr. Lipstadt’s nomination is an especially shameful act of hypocrisy. Senator Jim Risch (R-ID) is blocking consideration of her nomination, and not just by denying her a committee vote, but also by refusing to give her a hearing. Dr. Lipstadt has dedicated her life to fighting Holocaust denial, antisemitism, and disinformation. She is the foremost expert on this issue, and the longer Republicans block her nomination, the more Republicans fail to protect Jews around the world against the rise of global antisemitism.

In addition, it’s now been 109 days since the House passed emergency funding for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system. Despite unanimous support among Senate Democrats, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) continues to block the funding’s passage in the Senate. The entire GOP bears responsibility. Not a single Republican, including Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, has called out Paul or taken action to stop him. Republicans posture about support for Israel when it is politically convenient, but they have said and done nothing to release Paul’s hold and ensure Israel receives these crucial funds.

As Republicans continue to attack our democracy and right to vote, their obstruction in Congress is hurting Jewish Americans — and all Americans — and we must make our voices heard. Let everyone know that you stand for democracy by ordering your Jews Against Coups shirts, mugs, and stickers today.

Thank you for your continued support.
