August 29, 2018

As summer comes to an end and we prepare for “back to school,” please join the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) on Tuesday, September 4 at 2:00 EST for a briefing call on “Education Policy in the Age of Trump” with Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). This is a unique opportunity to hear from one of the foremost education policy experts about education policy in the Trump administration from a Jewish perspective. Topics to be discussed include: public education funding, student loans, privatization schemes, and the safety of teachers and students. To join, please sign-up here.

The American Federation of Teachers is a 1.7 million-member union representing teachers, education professionals, and early childhood educators. The AFT champions high-quality public education, as well as healthcare and public services for students, their families and communities. Prior to her election as AFT president in 2008, Randi Weingarten served for 12 years as president of the United Federation of Teachers, AFT Local 2, representing approximately 200,000 educators in the New York City public school system, as well as home child care providers and other workers in health, law and education. In 2013, the New York Observer named Weingarten one of the most influential New Yorkers of the past 25 years. Washington Life magazine included Weingarten on its 2013 Power 100 list of influential leaders.

Randi is active in her Jewish community and is married to its senior rabbi, Sharon Kleinbaum. Randi holds degrees from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and the Cardozo School of Law. She is also an active member of the Democratic National Committee and numerous professional, civic and philanthropic organizations.
