Jewish Dems Condemn Republicans for Trying to Blame Israel for the War in Iran

March 3, 2026

WASHINGTON – After Secretary Rubio and Speaker Johnson suggested that the U.S. launched preemptive military strikes ahead of a likely Israeli operation targeting Iran, Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), released the following statement:

“We stand with American troops and Americans in the region, the Israeli people and military, and our Gulf partners as they defend against ongoing Iranian missile and drone attacks. At the same time, we’re deeply concerned about the shifting justifications for war articulated by the Trump administration.

“When President Trump began striking Iran, he indicated it was to bring about regime change. The White House then attempted – and completely failed – to demonstrate that Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States. Yesterday, Secretary Rubio and Speaker Johnson effectively blamed Israel for leading us to war, which is unprecedented, dangerous, and deeply irresponsible.

“Secretary Rubio and Speaker Johnson’s assertions that U.S. military strikes targeting Iran were compelled or forced by Israel are the height of irresponsibility and recklessness. As Jewish Americans, we’re deeply concerned about the consequences of the White House effectively blaming Israel for its decision to launch a war against Iran, which has now spread to the entire Middle East.

“Rather than take responsibility for risking American lives, Secretary Rubio appeared comfortable indicating that the White House was coaxed into war by Israel. President Trump’s assertion today that ‘Israel didn’t make me attack, I made them attack’ only made the matter worse by continuing to link U.S. military actions and decision-making to Israel.

“Launching a war is the single most consequential decision the White House and Congress can make. We condemn the White House for circumventing Congress and shifting its justification for war, including blaming Israel for its actions.”
