Rand Paul Blocks Iron Dome Funding for Fourth Time, GOP Remains Silent
After Senator Rand Paul objected to a vote to advance emergency supplemental funds for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) released the following statement:
Today, Senator Rand Paul objected – for the fourth time – to Democratic requests to pass additional funding for Israel’s Iron Dome. But that’s not the whole story. Perhaps more importantly, for the fourth time, Paul’s objection was met with complete silence from every Senate Republican, including Mitch McConnell.
There’s a certain irony to Paul objecting to this life-saving assistance on the same day Israel announced it would send aid to Kentucky after the horrific tornadoes. It’s also ironic that the GOP continues to falsely claim the ‘pro-Israel’ mantle when it’s completely ignored Paul’s obstruction of this bill.
The House passed the bill overwhelmingly 83 days ago, and Senate Democrats unanimously support its passage. The one thing standing in its way is complete Republican apathy toward the intransigence of Senator Rand Paul.
