New Jewish Voters Poll Indicates Surge of Support for Dems, Biden, Democracy & Abortion Access Ahead of Midterms

September 15, 2022

WASHINGTON – On the heels of a new national poll of Jewish voters that demonstrates broad and rising support for Democrats and President Biden, the Jewish Democratic Council of America will host a large virtual rally on September 20 at 5pm ET featuring 30 leading members of Congress and House, Senate and gubernatorial candidates, and Dem celebrities including Jon Lovett and Brian Tyler Cohen.

More about the poll can be found here, and you can sign up for the rally here: Path to Victory: Democracy Depends On Us · Jewish Democratic Council of America.

According to a poll released today by the Jewish Electorate Institute (JEI), 70% of Jewish voters would support a Democratic candidate for Congress if the election were held today, while only 24% would vote for a Republican candidate, representing a 10% increase in the Democratic lead since April 2022. Seventy percent of Jewish voters approve of the way Joe Biden is handling his job as president, a 7% increase from April, while a mere 19% of Jewish voters hold a favorable view of Donald Trump.

Eighty-two percent of Jewish voters disapprove of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade – with 57% saying that decision has made them more motivated to vote – and abortion access and the future of democracy are the top two issues for Jewish voters. The poll also found that 92% of Jewish voters are concerned about antisemitism, and a majority trust Democrats more than Republicans to fight it.

JDCA’s CEO Halie Soifer responded to the poll’s release: “This poll confirms that the overwhelming majority of Jewish voters are voting in the midterms to defend our democracy, ensure access to abortion, protect our planet, and enact common sense gun safety measures. Support for Democrats is rising and support for the GOP is declining because, on all these issues and more, Republicans are dangerously out of touch with Jewish and American values.

JDCA Chair Ron Klein added, “It’s not a surprise that support for Democrats is surging among Jewish Americans, as Democratic candidates who champion our values take on extremist MAGA Republicans who threaten the very issues that matter most to Jewish voters. At this moment of rising support for Dems, we’re proud to host an unprecedented virtual rally to build on this moment and ensure Democrats win in November. We encourage Jewish Dems across the country to join us, to hear how the Jewish vote can and will make a critical difference in the midterms.”

With less than two months before the midterm elections, many of the 115 JDCA-endorsed candidates are running against extremist Republicans in states and districts where Jewish voters could decide the election. JDCA PAC has released three ads targeting Jewish Independent voters across the country, and specifically in Arizona and Georgia, with more to come soon. At Tuesday’s Path to Victory: Democracy Depends On Us virtual rally, more than 30 elected -officials and candidates running in House, Senate and gubernatorial races will speak to Jewish Dems from across the country about the stakes in this year’s election for democracy and the values of Jewish voters.
