Jewish Dems Condemn Inflammatory Rhetoric on Israel
Board Chair Ron Klein and Jewish Dems CEO Halie Soifer released the following statement condemning inflammatory anti-Israel rhetoric:
“Last week, Jewish Dems applauded the House of Representatives for approving a supplemental appropriation of $1 billion for the Iron Dome by a vote of 420-9-2, with 96% of all Democrats voting in favor. We condemn those who conflated this defensive system that has saved countless lives with offensive weapons, and call on the Senate to swiftly pass this legislation and send the bill to President Biden’s desk. We also note it is currently being held in the Senate by a Republican, Sen. Rand Paul.
“Jewish Dems strongly disagree with those on both sides of the aisle in the House who prevented inclusion of the Iron Dome funding in the continuing resolution, and we strongly disagree with the nine members of Congress who then voted ‘no,’ as well as the two who voted present. This vote should have been bipartisan and unanimous, fulfilling President Biden’s pledge to replenish the Jewish Sta depleted stockpile of Iron Dome interceptors following the onslaught of more than 4,400 mortar rockets shot by Hamas earlier this year.
“In particular, we condemn in the strongest possible terms the inflammatory rhetoric of Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) during the House debate, in which she likened Israel to an ‘apartheid regime.’ Her dangerous rhetoric does not reflect the views of Jewish Dems, the Democratic Party, or the overwhelming majority of Americans, and fuels hatred against our community and Israel.”
