Jewish Dems Urge Opposition to S.Res.504, Strong Support for President Biden’s Supplemental Aid to Israel
WASHINGTON – Ahead of the U.S. Senate’s vote later today on S.Res.504, a Senate resolution introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders which could lead to restrictions or reductions on aid to Israel, the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) released the following statement:
“As the political home of Jewish voters who share our values, the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) is committed to advocating for the priorities of Jewish voters in the United States. While Jewish voters prioritize a range of issues, Israel’s security remains a deep concern, and three-quarters of Jewish voters overwhelmingly support President Biden’s handling of the crisis between Israel and Hamas.
“JDCA strongly supports President Biden’s October 20 request for $14.3 billion in supplemental security assistance to Israel – in addition to military assistance for Ukraine, and humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people.
“Instead of addressing these needs, S.Res.504 could result in deep cuts to U.S. military aid to Israel. The resolution requires the State Department to issue a report on alleged Israeli human rights violations, and if it fails to do so within 30 days, all U.S. security assistance to Israel would be cut. JDCA and the vast majority – 80% – of Jewish voters support U.S. aid to Israel.
“We have urged Democratic senators to vote against S.Res.504 when it is called to a vote later today because it is the wrong approach. We believe that the focus should be on supporting U.S. aid to Israel, freeing the hostages, dismantling Hamas, and ensuring humanitarian aid reaches innocent Palestinians in Gaza.”
