Jewish Dems Support House Resolution Opposing BDS and Supporting Two States
JDCA Executive Director Halie Soifer issued the following statement in support of the bipartisan resolution opposing the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement (BDS) introduced by House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL) and co-sponsors Lee Zeldin (R-NY) and Ann Wagner (R-MO).
“This bipartisan resolution reaffirms opposition to the BDS movement because it is an impediment to a two-state solution. It also reiterates U.S. support for ‘a negotiated solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict resulting in two states – a democratic Jewish State of Israel, and a viable, democratic Palestinian state – living side-by-side in peace, security, and mutual recognition.’ We strongly support this position and policy, and reaffirm our opposition to BDS.
“Opposition to BDS is a core principle of the Democratic Party, as noted in the 2016 party platform, which states: ‘we will always support Israel’s right to defend itself, including by retaining its qualitative military edge, and oppose any effort to delegitimize Israel, including at the United Nations or through the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement.’
“We are pleased that there is bipartisan support for this resolution, and we urge all members of Congress to support this measure, which reaffirms what has been existing U.S. policy for decades.”
