Press Release

Jewish Dems Stand with Israel

June 16, 2025

WASHINGTON – As Israel targets Iran’s nuclear program, and Iran retaliates with attacks on Israeli civilians, Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), released the following statement:

“Over the past several days, Israel has been targeted by a barrage of Iranian missiles and drones. These attacks have deliberately targeted civilian areas and have led to the deaths of 24 Israeli civilians. Cities such as Tel Aviv, Haifa, and communities across the country have faced devastating strikes and remain under sustained threat, forcing the entire country to seek shelter – sometimes with only seconds to spare – and disrupting daily life, closing schools, and straining emergency services. We are heartbroken by the growing loss of life and injuries sustained, and the devastation this war has created in just four days.

“We stand with the Israeli people during this incredibly difficult time and believe Israel has the right to defend itself, including from the existential threat posed by a nuclear Iran. We know that Iran was closer than ever before to developing a nuclear weapon before the Israeli strikes. According to an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report last week, Iran had continued to enrich uranium to near weapons-grade levels and had failed to comply with its nuclear nonproliferation obligations. As we have said repeatedly, Iran must never be able to acquire a nuclear weapon.

“Strong U.S. leadership is required to bring this war to an end and ensure lasting security for Israel. We are grateful the U.S. helped to develop the three missile defense systems that are now saving so many Israeli lives – the Iron Dome, ARROW, and David’s Sling – amid the barrage of ongoing Iranian attacks.

“We would like to see a clearer position from the Trump administration on the war, and support an eventual diplomatic resolution to ensure Iran can never develop a nuclear weapon. The United States must continue working with international partners to hold Iran accountable, curb its malign activities, and prevent further escalation, and we call on Donald Trump to demonstrate leadership as opposed to sending mixed signals to Israel and Iran.”
