Jewish Dems Speak Out on Eve of Women’s March

January 18, 2019

WASHINGTON — Halie Soifer, executive director of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), was interviewed yesterday on Israel’s i24 News about anti-Semitism in the leadership of Women’s March, Inc. On i24, Soifer explained that the leaders of Women’s March have failed to adhere to the original objectives of the 2017 march by condoning anti-Semitism, marginalizing Jewish women in the movement, and refusing to distance themselves from Louis Farrakhan, whom the Anti-Defamation League has referred to as “America’s leading anti-Semite.”

“While JDCA supports the broad goals of the Women’s March and sister marches this weekend, as we have previously stated, the views of the Women’s March leadership are inconsistent with our unequivocal rejection of anti-Semitism, hatred, and bigotry in all its forms,” said Soifer. “We believe in inclusion and equality for women and all minority groups, and are deeply disappointed leaders of the March have failed to build a movement rooted in these principles. JDCA supports organizations which have withdrawn their support of the Women’s March and stands in solidarity with sister marches taking places across the country this weekend.”

On i24, Soifer said that “it’s not just about the fact that Tamika Mallory failed to condemn him [Farrakhan] and his hateful words earlier this week, it’s also about the fact that she and other members of the leadership have repeatedly associated with him, have gone to his events, and have been seen with him, therefore aligning themselves with him and his movement, and those are not the principles for which we all marched [in 2017].”
