Jewish Dems Respond to Trump’s Plan to Nominate Mike Huckabee as Ambassador to Israel

November 12, 2024

Following President-elect Trump’s selection of Gov. Mike Huckabee as his nominee to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), responded:

“After Donald Trump moved the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, he said he did it ‘for the evangelicals,’ so it’s no surprise that he nominated the first non-Jewish ambassador to Israel since 2011. Huckabee once accused former President Obama of bringing Jews ‘to the door of the oven’ and has a history of racist remarks.

“Huckabee is utterly unqualified for this role. His extremist views with regard to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will not further the national security interests of the United States or advance prospects for peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

“Unfortunately, when it comes to the U.S.-Israel relationship, Donald Trump will continue to only be motivated by his own narrow self-interest, and we’re deeply concerned about what that means for the United States and Israel.”
