Jewish Dems Respond to Atlantic Article
WASHINGTON—In response to the recent article by David Frum in the Atlantic entitled “What if they’re not coming for the Jews this time?”, Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) Executive Director Halie Soifer said the following:
“American Jews are deeply concerned by President Trump’s bigotry, whether directed at our community or others. Overlooking the president’s xenophobia and racism because of the false notion that the Jewish community may be insulated is at best, short-sighted. At worst, it’s morally bankrupt.
“President Trump has used hatred to divide Americans, and has recently used anti-Semitism and Israel as an excuse for his racism. He has espoused and invoked many forms of bigotry and intolerance – including anti-Semitism – when he has deemed it politically expedient. The proliferation of white supremacy and dramatic rise of anti-Semitic attacks during his presidency demonstrates the result of weaponizing hateful rhetoric, which proliferates in various forms.
“Jews understand this reality from our history, which is why nearly three-quarters of Jewish voters feel less secure today than they did two years ago, and a majority of Jewish voters partially blame the president for the two horrific synagogue shootings in the past year. Those who choose to ignore these facts because of the president’s shallow record on Israel are hiding behind a false sense of security that betrays Jewish history and values.”
