Jewish Dems React to New York Primary Results
WASHINGTON – After the announced results of various New York Democratic primaries, Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), shared the following comment:
“JDCA is proud to have endorsed ten candidates in the New York primaries who share our core values: Reps. Suozzi, Gillen, Meng, Goldman, Espaillat, Torres, Latimer, Ryan, Riley, and Mannion.
“New Yorkers made their voices heard tonight, and we are pleased that eight of our endorsees won. JDCA hosted candidate forums for NY-12 and NY-17 voters to hear the candidates’ perspectives on issues most pressing to the Jewish community, conducted independent expenditures, and mobilized the Jewish vote in key races.
“JDCA congratulates Reps. Suozzi, Gillen, Meng, Torres, Latimer, Ryan, Riley and Mannion on their well-deserved victories. These Democrats share our Jewish values, and we are confident that they will serve as a check on Donald Trump and the Republican Party’s extreme, authoritarian agenda in Congress.
“JDCA extends our deep gratitude to Reps. Goldman and Espaillat for their leadership in Congress, including in the fight against Trump’s persistent attacks on democracy. We regret that Israel became a divisive issue in these races, especially in NY-10, and we will continue to support Democrats across the country who stand on principle in support of Jewish values including democracy, against antisemitism, and in support of the U.S.-Israel relationship.
“As November approaches, JDCA looks forward to continuing to engage Jewish voters in districts and states that can make the difference in flipping the House and Senate to regain Democratic majorities in Congress, while working to ensure those Democrats align with our values and priorities.”
