Jewish Dems Raise Concerns About Morocco-Israel Announcement
WASHINGTON – Following today’s announcement of normalization of relations between Israel and Morocco and U.S. recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Western Sahara, Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) CEO Halie Soifer released the following statement:
“We welcome the normalization of relations between Israel and Arab states, but we are concerned that once again, President Trump has proven that he views foreign policy toward Israel as a series of short-sighted transactional deals. This is not just a diplomatic agreement between two countries that already have economic and cultural ties – it also represents another Trump foreign policy quid pro quo.
Morocco’s agreement to establish full diplomatic relations with Israel comes at the expense of the U.S. attempting to sell sophisticated drones to Morocco and by becoming the only Western country to recognize Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, representing a reckless shift in U.S. foreign policy in the twilight of Trump’s failed presidency.
Just because this has to do with Israel, it does not mean Jewish Americans can see this for what it is – another Trump foreign policy quid pro quo.”
