Jewish Dems Praise President Biden’s Leadership and Endorse Vice President Kamala Harris

July 21, 2024

WASHINGTON – Following President Biden’s announcement that he will no longer seek re-election and now supports Vice President Harris as the Democratic nominee for president, Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) Chair Ron Klein and CEO Halie Soifer, released the following statement:

JDCA Chair Ron Klein said the following:

“We applaud President Biden’s record of success delivering for the American people and his exemplary leadership. Throughout his 50-plus-year career in public service, Jewish Americans have stood with President Biden because he has stood with us, and we deeply appreciate his alignment with our values, his moral clarity, and abiding commitment to combating antisemitism, staunch support of Israel, and his unwavering defense of democracy. President Biden has been an extraordinary president, and we are proud to have endorsed him in 2020 and again in 2024 for reelection.

“Today, we commend President Biden’s leadership in passing the torch to Vice President Harris, who has a strong record of standing with Jewish Americans. We are proud to endorse Vice President Harris’s historic candidacy for president and remain deeply committed to ensuring that Democrats hold the White House, win back the House, and defend our majority in the Senate. We must defeat Donald Trump and other extremist Republicans in order to defend our democracy, security, and reproductive rights, and we plan to do so at the ballot box on November 5.”

JDCA CEO Halie Soifer said the following:

“I had the privilege of serving as national security advisor to then-Senator Kamala Harris. For nearly two years, I experienced firsthand what the country has come to know of our Vice President – she is a deeply committed and principled public servant who will continue to advance the policy priorities of all Americans, including Jewish Americans, building on the strong record of the Biden-Harris administration.

“In 2017, I traveled with then-Sen. Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff to Israel, and witnessed their deep commitment to Israel’s security and strong ties to the Jewish community. Since they began serving in the White House, we have been grateful for the Vice President and Second Gentleman’s staunch leadership on issues of importance to Jewish Americans, including launching the first-ever National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism and standing with Israel. JDCA is mobilizing Jewish voters across the country – especially in the battleground states where it matters most – to support Vice President Harris’s path to victory, and we will ensure she wins with the strong support of Jewish Americans.

“Everything that Jewish Americans care about is on the ballot in November, from reproductive rights to the future of our democracy. We deeply admire and appreciate President Biden’s leadership, and are proud to stand with Vice President Harris.”
