Jewish Dems Outraged by Trump’s Use of U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum for Political Retribution
April 29, 2025
WASHINGTON – After President Trump selectively fired appointees to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, inflicting unprecedented damage on a non-partisan institution dedicated to Holocaust remembrance, Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), responded:
“The Trump administration’s selective firing of appointees to the U.S. Holocaust Museum’s Memorial Council is unprecedented and reprehensible. Membership on the Museum board is a solemn non-partisan obligation, which should not be viewed through a political lens. Trump’s firing of members of the Museum board is a clear act of political retribution, and we condemn Donald Trump for once again using Jewish Americans for his political agenda.
“Since its establishment in 1993, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum has promoted tolerance, preserved the memory of the 6 million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, and educated the public about the darkest moments of history to ensure the promise of ‘never again.’
“Today’s action by President Trump demonstrates an egregious disregard for the mission of the Museum, and willingness to politicize the sacred memory of the Holocaust. Every American who cares about preserving the memory of the six million lives lost in the Holocaust should be outraged by Donald Trump’s actions.”
