Jewish Dems Oppose Unilateral Annexation
WASHINGTON – The Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) will hold a webinar on what unilateral annexation would mean for Israel and U.S.-Israel relations on Tuesday, June 30, at 3pm ET with two authors of a House letter signed by nearly 200 Democrats expressing concern with prospects for unilateral Israeli annexation. Reps. Brad Schneider and Jan Schakowsky, as well as former U.S. ambassador to the UN Dan Shapiro, will join JDCA. You can sign-up here.
JDCA Executive Director Halie Soifer issued the following statement in opposition to possible unilateral annexation of parts of the West Bank by Israel:
“Jewish Democrats are strongly supportive of the U.S.-Israel relationship, Israel’s security, U.S. military aid to Israel, and Israel’s right to self-defense. The overwhelming majority of Jewish voters are both staunchly pro-Israel and supportive of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which remains the best viable option for ensuring Israel’s future as a Jewish, democratic state.
“Unilateral Israeli annexation of parts of the West Bank may permanently preclude a two-state solution and weaken Israel’s security. As supporters of Israel, we strongly caution the Israeli government against moving forward with annexation.
“JDCA applauds the Senate and House Democrats who have nearly unanimously expressed concern about unilateral annexation and support for a two-state solution. A negotiated two-state solution has been U.S. policy – in consecutive Republican and Democratic administrations – for decades because it’s in Israel’s best interest and reflective of the shared values that form the basis of the U.S.-Israel relationship.”
