Jewish Dems Oppose Gov. Mike Huckabee’s Nomination to be U.S. Ambassador to Israel
WASHINGTON – Ahead of former Governor Mike Huckabee’s confirmation hearing tomorrow on his nomination to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), expressed concerns with his nomination. Soifer released the following statement:
“President Trump’s nomination of former Gov. Mike Huckabee to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Israel is indicative of President Trump’s approach to Israel – extremist, transactional, and out of touch with the vast majority of American Jews.
“Former Gov. Huckabee has expressed extreme views related to Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He is an ally of the settler movement and supports Israel annexing parts of the West Bank. He also refuses to recognize the existence of Palestinians and dismisses the two-state solution as a ‘fantasy.’
“His extreme Christian nationalist worldview is a long-term threat to the Jewish people, demonstrating the transactional and dangerous approach President Trump has taken, including when he said he moved the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem ‘for the Evangelicals.’ American Jews know that the Christian nationalist end-times prophecy doesn’t end well for the Jewish people.
“Since taking office, Donald Trump has nominated and appointed extremists across the government, including to the State Department and the Pentagon. Now more than ever, Jewish Americans reject these dangerous views. Former Gov. Huckabee is aligned with the Trump administration’s extreme agenda, and JDCA urges the U.S. Senate to reject his nomination.”
