Jewish Dems Mark Beginning of 119th Congress

January 3, 2025

WASHINGTON – At the beginning of the 119th Congress, Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), released the following statement:

“Jewish Dems were proud to recognize the more than 100 Democrats we helped to elect who were sworn-in to the 119th Congress today. JDCA stands alongside House and Senate Democrats in defense of democracy and against the danger of right-wing extremism. We reject GOP efforts to cut Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, veterans’ benefits and other social services to pay for Donald Trump’s tax cuts. JDCA stands with Leaders Jeffries and Schumer – and Senate and House Democrats – in their continued efforts to deliver for the American people and strengthen the middle class. We also support their efforts to defend our national security interests and stand with our allies, including Israel and Ukraine.

“As President-elect Trump nominates dangerous extremists to serve in his Cabinet and administration, JDCA activists continue to make their voices heard – sending over 10,000 letters to Congress to advocate for our values and priorities, and oppose Trump’s egregiously unqualified nominees.

“We’re clear-eyed about the challenges ahead under a president who has attacked our democracy and rule of law. We also recognize the power of our movement to elevate leaders who share our values – including opposition to antisemitism and support of Israel – many of whom were sworn-in to Congress today. We stand ready to advocate for our Jewish and Democratic priorities in the 119th Congress and our work in this Congress has already begun.”
