Jewish Dems Congratulate Warnock and Ossoff

January 6, 2021

WASHINGTON – Following the almost certain victories last night of Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock in the Georgia Senate run-off elections, Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) CEO Halie Soifer released the following statement:

“Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff’s historic wins represent victory for the shared values of the Jewish and Black communities in America, and in Joe Biden’s vision for our future. With the Senate, House and White House under Democratic control, Joe Biden will have an even broader ability to restore the soul of our nation, combat hatred and division, defend our national security, and protect American lives and livelihoods amid crisis.

“And yet, today, a minority of radical Republican lawmakers will attempt to overthrow the will of the American people in reverence to a defeated and corrupt president. We are under no illusion that some Republicans will continue to echo remnants of Trump’s authoritarianism even after he leaves the White House in 14 days, which is why JDCA will be at the forefront of efforts to defend our democracy, ensure access to affordable healthcare, combat climate change and gun violence, enact humane immigration reform, and end the scourge of white nationalism emboldened by Trump.

“Senator-elect Warnock said this morning that Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel and Dr. Martin Luther King are looking down from heaven and smiling. We could not agree more.

Jewish Dems are proud of our work in these close elections and we are looking forward to a brighter future with Democrats at the helm.”
