Jewish Dems Call President Trump “Depraved” for Referring to Armed Militia in Michigan as “Very Good People” Just Like Neo-Nazis in Charlottesville
WASHINGTON – Following President Trump’s reference to armed protesters yesterday in the Michigan State Capitol as “very good people,” Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) Executive Director Halie Soifer issued the following statement:
“What kind of depraved elected official calls a heavily-armed militia classified as an antigovernment extremist group blocking a governor’s office ‘very good people’? The same one who called neo-Nazis marching in Charlottesville ‘very fine people’ less than three years ago.
“Two weeks ago, President Trump perilously goaded those protesting social-distancing measures to ‘liberate Michigan.’ Yesterday, they attempted to do just that by storming the State Capitol in my hometown of Lansing, armed with assault weapons, in a protest that also included images of swastikas and comparisons of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer to Hitler.
“It’s unconscionable that the president of the United States would embolden hatred, extremism and civil unrest at any time, but especially amid a national public health crisis when our communities need and demand real leadership.
“President Trump equivocated after the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville in 2017, equating neo-Nazis with those peacefully protesting them. He did the same thing earlier today in response to dangerous protests against stay-at-home orders in Michigan, sending a message that – for him – hatred and extremism is acceptable. This is one of many reasons we’re doing everything we can to ensure Donald Trump is defeated in November.”
