Jewish Dems Applaud Confirmation of Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt
Republicans’ unconscionable delay of Lipstadt’s confirmation hindered the ability of the U.S. government to monitor and combat global antisemitism for nearly a year.
WASHINGTON – Responding to the confirmation of Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt to serve as U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Demcoratic Council of America, released the following statement:
“The deeply troubling rise of global antisemitism has underscored the critical need for a strong U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism. We are thrilled that the inimitable Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt has been confirmed for this important role with the rank of Ambassador. Her extensive experience and qualifications are unparalleled, and Jews around the world will no doubt benefit from having her in this role.
“Recognizing the urgency of combatting antisemitism, we can’t ignore the eight months of needless obstruction from Senate Republicans, who intentionally delayed consideration of Ambassador Lipstadt’s nomination. In the end, their opposition was no more than a paper tiger – she was confirmed last night unanimously – which only underscores the political game Republicans played with this critically important role. Republicans’ unconscionable delay of Ambassador Lipstadt’s confirmation hindered the ability of the U.S. government to monitor and combat global antisemitism for nearly a year.
“JDCA is grateful to President Biden and Democratic senators for ensuring Ambassador Lipstadt’s confirmation. Now, she can get to work and do what she has done for decades: expose antisemitism and root it out wherever and whenever it may emerge.”
