Jewish Dems Applaud Biden Appointments as a “National Security Dream Team”

November 23, 2020

WASHINGTON – Following today’s announcements of key national security and other appointments planned by President-elect Joe Biden, Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) Executive Director Halie Soifer released the following statement:

“The national security appointments announced today by President-elect Biden demonstrate that he is assembling a team of highly competent and experienced leaders to restore the soul of our nation and rebuild America’s vital alliances around the world. These appointments represent a ‘national security dream team’ from the perspective of Jewish Dems because these nominees share a deep commitment to our Jewish and American values.

“The composition of Joe Biden’s administration reflects that diversity is America’s strength. His appointments also show that welcoming immigrants enables us to leverage our full national potential. We are proud of the fact that this slate of nominees includes multiple Jewish Americans and others whose family history represents the rich tapestry of American society. Their understanding of our past will help to build a stronger future.

“Biden’s nominees for Secretary of State, Tony Blinken, Ambassador to the United Nations, Amb. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, and National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, have a remarkable breadth and depth of relevant experience to these vital positions. Having worked with all three in the Obama administration, I can speak from personal experience to their integrity, moral leadership, and deep commitment to America’s national security goals.

“Jewish Dems also warmly welcome the appointment of Alejandro Mayorkas, a Jewish Cuban-American immigrant, as DHS Secretary, Avril Haines as the first woman Director of National Intelligence, Janet Yellen as the first woman nominated to serve as Treasury Secretary, and Secretary John Kerry as Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change. All of these nominees are deeply respected leaders in their fields who will help to build back America better abroad and here at home.”
