Jewish Dems Applaud 2024 Democratic Party Draft Platform

WASHINGTON — Today, the DNC Platform Committee passed the draft Democratic Party platform, moving it forward to a vote by the full convention. Halie Soifer, CEO of the Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA), was the only Jewish American organizational leader to testify before the Platform Drafting Committee last week. That testimony can be found here. In response to passage of the platform, which was completely aligned with JDCA’s testimony, Soifer released the following statement:

“We are thrilled to see that the 2024 Democratic Party Platform squarely aligns with the policy priorities of Jewish Americans,including defense of democracy and reproductive rights, as well as efforts to combat antisemitism, and stand with Israel. Leadership matters, and with President Biden and Vice President Harris in the White House, the Democratic Party continues to represent the views and values of the vast majority of Jewish American voters.

“In our testimony before the Platform Committee last week, JDCA emphasized that ‘the Democratic Platform language on Israel should not be diluted from the strong starting point of four years ago.’We are thrilled to see that in fact it was not diluted; it was strengthened to include President Biden and Democrats’ staunch support of Israel in the aftermath of the horrific attacks of October 7 and unprecedented Iranian attack on April 13.

“The Republican Party Platform contains no substance – only empty platitudes – and does not mention October 7, the hostages, or Iran, and barely mentions antisemitism. The Democratic Platform goes into great detail on all of these important issues, and pledges to continue to act on the commitments made in the Biden-Harris administration’s historic National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism. We are proud to have played a critical role ensuring the Platform represents the vast majority of Jewish voters.
