Jewish Dems Announce Support of 3 Key House and Senate Candidates

May 27, 2022

WASHINGTON – The Jewish Democratic Council of America (JDCA) today announced its endorsement of three candidates in the 2022 election: two House members seeking re-election, Reps. Donald Payne Jr. (D-NJ) and Jerry Nadler (D-NY), and U.S. Senate candidate Lt. Gov. John Fetterman (D-PA). These three endorsees bring the total number of JDCA endorsements to 62 in this midterm election cycle. JDCA previously endorsed Rep. Carolyn Maloney, who is now running against Rep. Nadler in NY-12.

In key races across the country, JDCA and JDCA PAC will mobilize voters in support of its endorsed candidates using digital advertising campaigns and direct voter engagement with the goals of electing Democrats who share Jewish values including protecting democracy, defeating white supremacy, combating gun violence, defending abortion rights, and supporting a strong US-Israel relationship. Recent elections have demonstrated the effectiveness of JDCA’s unique model of targeting districts with high Jewish populations, getting out the vote, and winning competitive elections.

JDCA CEO Halie Soifer said: “We’re proud to support Democrats such as Rep. Jerry Nadler, the longest-serving Jewish member of the New York congressional delegation and a champion of Jewish values in Congress. Unpredictable redistricting in New York has yielded a district, NY-12, with two Democratic incumbents and close partners of JDCA. Reps. Carolyn Maloney and Jerry Nadler have earned JDCA’s endorsement, and we stand by both of them. We also stand by Rep. Donald Payne Jr., who faces a primary in New Jersey next Tuesday, because he’s a partner of the Jewish community who seeks to advance the priorities of Jewish voters in Congress.”

JDCA Chair Ron Klein added: “In Pennsylvania, we’re proud to support Lt. Gov. Fetterman, who joined JDCA at a candidate forum last month and demonstrated that he aligns with the values and priorities of Jewish voters. While the Republican primary votes are still being counted, it’s guaranteed that Fetterman’s opponent will be someone who embraces extreme views on abortion, pushes the Big Lie on elections, and denies the reality of climate change. The stakes of this election could not be higher, and JDCA will engage Jewish voters across Pennsylvania to elect John Fetterman to the Senate.”
